ABOUT PUSHKAR

Pushkar the holy township in Rajasthan is unique in its character. According to scared scripts, Brahma-first of the Hindu trinity, on passing this place let a lotus flower slip from his hand , water sprang from the spot where the petals fell. A lake was formed and called Pushkar, which means lotus. Most prominent amongst the temples in Pushkar is the temple of lord Brahma which has a ‘chaturmukh’ (having four heads) idol of Brahma Ji and nearby are the temples of Gayatri and Savitri. Other temples of significance in Pushkar are Shri Badrinarain Ji temple, Apteshwar and Atpateshwar Mahdeo temple.   Pushkar finds  a place amongst the ancient academic and research center in India. Situated here are the Shri vallabhacharya’s “Baithak” Agatsya-Ashram and the Gayatri Shakti Peeth. A in the river Saraswati at Pushkar is considered to be of high importance. This river is also called by five other names i.e. Suprabha, Kanchana, Prachi, Nanda and Vishalika.  At the time of Kartik Purnima in the month of October/ November thousands of pilgrims from all around the world throng at a pushkar to take a dip in the holy lake. The mark the solemn occasion a gigantic and lively fair is held for unmatched livestock where over one lakh cattle are traded, camel races and a spectrum of enthralling Rajasthani folk dances and exotic music that leaves the audience spellbound: Participants costumed in their traditional finery and participating whole heartedly add to the usual delight. With so much on it, as a living legend of the ancient Indian culture and with a cool and serene environment, Pushkar has been attracting both foreign and domestic tourists. Tourists will find it a nice place to relax and find themselves very near to the ancient Indian civilization and culture.  


Brahma Temple :
It is situated in the center of Rajasthan, where Lord Brahma, The creator of Universe, performed Vedic Yagna before executing creation.

This land was chosen where a lotus flower fell down from Brahma's hand. Pushkar is known for the only temple in the world, dedicated to Lord Brahma, more than 500 temples of other Gods and Goddesses and the Holy Lake surrounded by 52 bathing ghats, where people take a dip with deep religious faith, without which no pilgrimage is considered complete to achieve salvation.
One of the major thriving temple of Brahma, in Pushkar can be identified by its red Spire and By the image of Hans (The swan considered sacred to Lord Brahma).


Pushkar Fair :
It is a round the year destination for travelers, as many other small religious festivities take place here throughout the year every 10-15 days duration. In the afternoons, people crowd the stadium where camels, horses, and cows are paraded and raced.


Holy Lake :
Lake is semicircular lake around which there are 52 "Ghats(Holy bath place) ". The max depth of the lake is 10 mts. The lake is a known as the king of the "Trithas". The bath at Pushkar is thought to be more important than at any other place. The holy dip in this lake on kartika Purnima is thought to be salvation giving.


Desert, Rose Gardens and Villages :
A half day or full day Camel, Horse, Jeep or Camel Cart Safari takes visitors to show Sand Dunes in the desert, Pink Rose Gardens (Pink Roses are only available in Pushkar area and no where else in the world), Fruit Gardens and small interior Villages where rural life style is still totally untouched from urbanization. A life time feeling, for sure.

 

ABOUT AJMER

Ajmer situated in the green oasis wrapped in the barren hills has been a witness to an interesting past. The city was founded by Raja Ajay Pal Chauhan in the 7th Century A.D. and continued to be a major center of the Chauhan power till 1193 A.D. when Prithviraj Chauhan lost it to Mohammed Ghauri.since then, Ajmer became home to many dynasties, which came and left leaving behind indelible marks of their culture and traditions on the city’s history, converting it to an amalgam of various cultures and blend of Hinduism and Islam. Today, Ajmer is a popular pilgrimage center for the Hindus as well as Muslims. Especially famous is the Dargah Sharif-tomb of the Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti,which is equally revered by the Hindus and Muslims. Ajmer is also the base for visiting Pushkar(11 km.),the abode of Lord Brahma,lying to its west with a temple and a picturesque lake.The Pushkar lake is a sacred spot for Hindus. During the month of Kartik(Oct./Nov.),devotes throng in large numbers here to take a dip in the sacred lake.

The Dargah: At the foot of a barren hill, is situated India’s most important pilgrimage center for people from all faiths. It is the splendid tomb of the Sufi saint Khawaja Moinuddin Chisti more popularly known as Khawaja Saheb or Khawaja Sharif. The shrine is next only to Mecca or Median for the Muslims of south Asia. Akbar used to make a pilgrimage to the Dargah from Agra once a year.


Nasiyan (Jain Temple) :
A beautiful Jain temple built in the late 19th Century. It has a splended double - storeyed hall cointaning charming wooden gilt representation of Jain mythology. Built in the year 1865 by Rai Bahadur seth Mool Chand Soni of Ajmer. The temple consists of two parts, the first portion is the worship area for Jain community where idol of Lord Adinath the first of the 24 tirthsnkars, of jain religion is installed.



Mayo College:
Mayo College has been called the “Eton Of India” since its founding in 1870 AD. This is best expressed in the words of Lord Lytton, Viceroy of India on his visit to Mayo as the Chief Guest on the Annual Prize Giving day on 5th Dec. 1879.
